General idea about my story

I discussed with some of my friends to decide what I will to show people in my part of our project. They give me some comments like,
1, the idea should be able to filming, it must be realistic
2, there should be something really different in my story, people can see my idea quite easy through that kind of things
3, the story line should be clean and easy to understand, because we are trying to do a drama in a documentary way, it should be looks like a real life, but not totally acting

Our main idea about the final project is “NEVER GIVE UP”, I designed a story about a painter, who really loves painting; come to Europe to achieve his dream, to be a great painter. He is really hard working; very passion on arts, but there is only one problem that he is colour blindness.

Basically I want to show people how is the young painter struggle on his dream in a totally strange country. I also designed a way to make audience can feel the main character’s feeling. As I said the main character is colour blindness, so the KEY POINT obviously is the “COLOUR”. How to represent this kind of feel on the screen, I remember a film I had watched before, and that gives me a lot of help. The film’s name is “The Cook the Thief His Wife & Her Lover”. It is a quite complicated story in that film, but the colour in it really impressed me. When that character went to different rooms in that film, they were dress different clothes, and those clothes always fit the colour in the room, and the colour of each character also can to trend like a symbol of his or her personality. It is quite interesting idea, and I want to use it in my part of final project.

 

Another idea about our final project, we want to film it in lot of different places, I still remember the film which we saw in last lecture called “Dancing Shoes”, It looks like a nice idea of a drama, but it is too rough, just film in a little area, that will make the camera shoot in a film looks boring and unprofessional. Now everyone in our group just busy on the script writing now, we can feel time is running out, and deicide to finish our script idea before next Monday, hope everyone can get a nice story to write.

First I want to write something about our new idea. We have five people in a group, and we decide to let Tony Xu to be the camera man, because he is specialise on it, and has working experience in Chinese TV station. Obviously he will do it better than us, our plan is to make a drama, but it is not like a kind of normal drama, because we want to make it looks like a documentary, we will filming that in a documentary’s way, but all of the stories happened in it will be a drama.

Basically we want to make 4 different parts, and our group members will responses on their own part, think about the story in their own parts. We plan to film 4 different people, they live in a same place at different time, and try to put some links between them. The main idea we want to show in this film is kind of sprit like”NEVER GIVE UP”, we choose this as our topic, because when we found our plan A is unworkable, everyone in our group just feel really upset, we found there always will a distance between our dream and the realistic world. The failed just make us to start thinking, why there are lots of people can’t achieve their dreams? We feel really interesting in this question, and plan to do a research on it, we will do a survey to ask different people, what are their dreams, are they achieve it? Or failed to achieve it? What is the main reason caused this result?    

According today’s lecture, I found that our idea still not complete very well, and the handout is really useful as well. I plan to answer all of those questions on the paper, and hope that could help me to improve our idea.

Now I only can answer some of those questions which are answerable at this monument. The first thing we have to face to is Finance, as I said our plan A, the Kung fu documentary was failed is because the finance problem. Our plan B roughly cost about 300 pounds in all. We put everything into details on a paper, such as how much will cost on the set up? How much will on the tools during filming? Later I will put all of them on my Blog as a research resource.

We will still working hard on our project, and we decide to copy the we heard during the lecture, to make up a group timetable on internet, and that will let us know about others work, and make everything more effective.

Idea of final project

The development of final idea.

I should say, it is not easy to develop the flash idea, it is far from easy.

After Friday’s Presentation, our group start to plan our spending on our final project, as I said, we plan to pay 1500 pounds in all to finish that, but sooner we found we did a big mistake. We forget to put the tax of the airlines into our spending, with that our spending will more than 2500 pounds, and that is not including the fee we borrow equipment.

Very unlucky, we still try to find some founding from the UNI or some commercial companies who may interested in our project, but sometimes things just stocked because our identity–overseas students.

It is really hard to give up our plan A, but because of the time, we start to working on plan B at the same time. The first idea is comes from a film called “Tower of Babel”, basically we want to learn something from that film, such as story organized. We want to push different people in a same kind of situation, and filming their responses. It is like a experiments’ filming, but sooner again we found it is not workable by us. And we don’t have a good idea about what is the same situation should be.

But we still have a lot of options in plan B, we also plan to do a kind of documentary, not for something else, just filming our discussing period of our final project, filming ourselves. If we decide to do things in that way, that is meanings we should write a script to support our film, but is that will be a kind of  boring things for just filming people discuss and argue?  We still need work lots on our development of final ideas.

Final project

Very lucky, today we finally find a Kung fu school in China, and they also said will be happy if we film them. It is a

professional Kung fu school in Xingtai, Heibei province. There is the website from that school

As we known, it is probably the biggest professional Kung fu school in China. Today we also have two new members

join in to our group, they are Xinyu Li(Carrie) and Yi Xu( Jessie). After our discus, we decide to make a special

documentary, I mean we will not focus on the spectacle things, because we are try to do a documentary, we want to

show how reality it is. We plan to make this documentary during Easter holidays, and the film period may cost 7 to 10

days. We want to film different group of people there, because as we know, even in China, the students who studying

in a professional Kung fu school should be cost by many other reasons but not because they like Kung fu. It is a big

school, and they said they have enough students to let us choose. Another main topic we want to show in our

documentary is the sprit of Chinese Kung fu. Chinese people play Kung fu, not only for be powerful, the first purpose

is to improve themselves. Kung fu in Chinese character is “武” and that is means stop the war. Also we plan to apply

for the UNI’s funding. Just hope we have good luck on it!

Kung fu should to the topic of our Final Project!

It is good news that I get a direction about my final project, Chinese Kung fu!

I discussed my idea with some of my friends, Tony Wang, and Tony Xu, and we decide to work as a group to finish our documentary. We also discussed what kind of Kung fu documentary we want to film, should we make a documentary like a kind of Kung fu film? That is means we need read a script for it, but that will also make it more like a drama. After about 3 hours discussing, we finally decided to film some story about those people who learn Kung fu in a professional Kung fu school, and film those people’s story. As this idea now we start to find a professional Kung fu school that will allow us to film them!

As I said before, the soul of a documentary is the audiences, so we need carefully decide what we will show to them through our camera. We need to make up a SURVEY as soon as possible, we ask all of our friends to make up questions like these:

1, Do you know Bruce Lee? Do you know what he can do?
2, Do you think most of Chinese people know how to play Kung fu?
3, What do you think Kung fu exactly is? Fighting skills? Arts? Or something else?
4, If we make a documentary about those people who learn Kung fu in China, will you enjoy to watch?
5, Which style of Kung fu do you think is the best? Jackie Chan’s free boxing? Jet Lee’s shourinken? Or Bruce Lee’s Jeet Kune Do?
6, Why they learn Kung fu for a whole life time? What is the propose of it?

I just clean up those question above this time, and I think we still need to archive those quotations, in order to find out what is the audiences’ like through this research.

Ideas of Final Project

During these days, I always think about one question, that is “what kind of things I made for my final

Can attracted people?” Because I want to do a do

I was studying the anchoring and broadcasting in China for several  years, and the first thing an anchor needs to pay attention to is “WHO are you talking to?” I found it is also fit to our final project.

What kind of audiences we will face to our final project?
 
What are they like?

What kind of documentary they are interested? 

“Audiences”, it is a key word for our final project. We really need to find out how to do a better communication with our audiences.

I said that I want to do something different, but also is something in my ability, so I considering about to do something about Chinese culture. Now I am in UK, so I want to do a little research about which part of Chinese culture is the most popular in UK. And in my ability, I think the best way to do this research is to do a SURVEY. 

I plan to list several things that I can made in my project, such as Chinese Kung fu, Chinese painting, Chinese diet and so on.

In all of those factors I made, in my view, Kung fu is a really interesting point, I still remember when I

first talk to my flatmates, and tell them I come from China, they just ask me” DO YOU KNOW HOW

TO PLAY KUNG  FU?” one of my friends said he look every Chinese people likes Bruce Lee.

I want to developing my idea in this direction, and we will see what I can find in it!

Ideas about final project

It is the first time I can log in my blog after the holidays, I think there may be some problem between Chinese internet and here, I can’t open that when I was in China.

I already studied in UK for half a year, I learn a lot of different things here. In China, I was working in a TV station as an anchor man for two years, during that time, i was lucky to join in to the media

production group and dicussed with them about how to make and film a documentary. At that time the whole group always take weeks to choose a story or what kind of things should be filmed. I can’t

really understand, but now I can see the reason why people working so hard on the preparative stage. Because I had been told all of my project should be basiced on researches, only in that way, we can

find what is our audience want to see through our camerae.

When I thinking about the idea of my final project, I recalled a film we watched last year-” Five Obstructions”.

 

 Lars Von Trier gives Lenth some limitaions, and make them challenged themselves. It is a

really good point to experiment films. And it also made me think what I can do in my final project. I can say I am a totally fresh in media production, and what I can do is try to find out what kind of  job I

can do, and can I make people like my project through tell them something they are interested.

The frist thing hits my mind is “Olympic Opening Ceremony”, I know it is a quite popular topic, but why it can attracted a lot of people’s attention?

Yimou Zhang, the general director of Beijing Olympic Openning Ceremony.

He explained he just try to show the world the best parts of Chinese culture, and we can see how he represented on the screen, he use different colours to show the soul of Chinese culture, and he is well-

known for the sense of colours in China.

all of the above things made me to think about to do something special about Chinese culture, and I will make sure which parts I will show on my final project as soon as possible!

Spectacle

 

  I am very interested in the psychogeography, it is the first time I heard about this kind of study.

So the first thing hits my mind is, why don’t I film some lights in city, because according the

psychogeography, light is kind of cities’ spectacle. It is also a good time to do this kind of work,

it is near Christmas, when we walk around Coventry, we can see people hang on colourful lights

everywhere.  And I think it is a interesting angle to watch the Christmas here, because we don’t

cerebra Christmas in China, so we I want to find some spectacle of Christmas, I only can find

something looks like the Christmas. Just like the lights in city made a city looks like the city, for this

reason I chose Birmingham to be the example in my artefact, my friend and I walk around

Birmingham and shoot everything we can feel Christmas in it, first I was just focus on the different

colours lights, but soon I found  people is also a good spectacle of Christmas, because Christmas is

come in, there are lot of stalls on the street, people just walk there, chat with friends, seems really

happy and relax, so I also shoot them in my artefact. by the way, i re-uploaded my power artefact again, hope u can see it, ths.
